In my last post I discussed how to make cufflink findings and I have previously blogged about making stickpin stoppers. I really enjoy making my own findings and especially like the de-engineering of a commercial finding to see what makes it tick!
Most jewellers I know will at least make their own earring hooks if not brooch fittings, but the question is where do you draw the line? A bought silver cufflink finding will cost at least $10. A bought stick pin end will be the most of $5. Even with much practice I doubt that I could viably make these items at that price. I take pride in knowing that a piece made by me is 100% handmade, but does the general public care or even know that many of the findings on jewellery items are commercially made?
So what do we choose...
